25 January: Introduction to the class. Write a personal narrative
26 January: Brainstorm what you think life in the inner city is like. Read "Introduction" and "Dreaming Big" in The Pact. Take notes on post-its for the chapters. Pick out an outside reading book.
27 January: Read "Home" and "Ma" in The Pact. Write down questions about the book. Make text to self connections. HOMEWORK: finish reading
28 January: Read "Common Ground" and "Caged" in The Pact. Take notes in web form. Word wall- define words from the chapter and use in a sentence.
31 January: Read “A Big Break”, “Hope” in The Pact. Tone/Audience/Purpose analysis of The Pact
1 February: Read “Summer Odyssey”, “Earth Angel” in The Pact. LAB: Wiki Writing Portfolios, create a cause and effect chart for the boys’ actions
2 February: Read “A Different World”, “Giving Back” in The Pact. Take notes on the reading. Write a reader's response (1 paragraph that sums up, 1 paragraph that gives your opinion and 3 questions) HOMEWORK: Read “Rap”, “Lovesick” in The Pact
3 February: No Class, assembly
4 February: Read “Access Med”, “Old Ties” in The Pact. Take notes on the conflicts in the book. Make text to self, text to world, text to text comparisons.

7 February: Read "D.W.B" and "Becoming Doctors" silently. Take notes on the chapters. LAB: Create a collage of words and pictures that you think represent the book.
8 February: Read "Perseverance" and "Graduation". Make a chart on your social, historical and cultural context versus the bous. Write a rough draft of an essay that defines non fiction, using examples from The Pact
9 February: Read "Goodbye" and "Home Again". Take notes on a timeline of what the boys were like at the beginning, middle and end of the book. LAB: type up non fiction essay and upload.
11 February: Review for Assessment tomorrow. LAB: Create a 1page Publisher document that you think represents the book
